Thursday 13: CHEERS!

It is New Year’s Eve! Cheers! Here are some fun to order cocktails that if you can order them without blushing are sure to make your celebration merry! What is your cocktail of choice??

The suffering bastard is the king of all coctails. It’s not a girly drink, nor does it need a special glass, it’s not for the faint-hearted, it will not be taking names.

suffering bastard recipes:

* classic bastard:
1 part gin
1 part rum
1/2 part lime juice
dash o’ bitters
1 part ginger ale
over ice

The Orgasm is a mixed drink that has many forms. In this recipe the cream is optional and if you want, it can be served neat. Another variation calls for vodka, coffee and amaretto liqueurs with cream over ice. While another on throws triple sec and creme de cacao in with the vodka and amaretto. To throw just one more option into the mix there is an Orgasm shooter using that is a shorter version of this one. This recipe is by most accounts the most common but all use equal parts of each ingredient, so at least that is easy to remember.
Ingredients:

* 1 oz coffee liqueur
* 1 oz amaretto liqueur
* 1 oz Irish cream liqueur
* cream to fill (optional)

Preparation:

1. Pour the liqueurs into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake well.
3. Strain into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.
4. Fill with cream if desired.

When someone orders a Screaming Orgasm they are looking for an Orgasm with vodka included. This small difference makes it easy to add both shooters to your bartender’s repertoire. The Screaming Orgasm tastes the same as it’s predecessor but is thinner and more potent. Both are popular party shots and the combination of liqueurs is one of the more pleasant flavors among shooters.
Ingredients:

* 1/4 oz vodka
* 1/4 oz amaretto liqueur
* 1/4 oz coffee liqueur
* 1/4 oz Irish cream liqueur

Preparation:

1. Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
2. Shake well.
3. Strain into a shot glass.

Take a French Martini, cross it with a Vampire, ditch the juice and add a splash of bubbly and you have given birth to a Vampire Kiss Martini. The taste of the drink itself is anything but scary, it’s actually very elegant and something that would work not only for Halloween, but for Valentine’s Day or any Champagne occasion. For its intended holiday, it is perfect because the Chambord gives it a dark, almost black color.
Ingredients:

* 1 1/2 oz Finlandia Vodka
* 1 1/2 oz Korbel Champagne
* 3/4 oz Chambord
* red sugar for rimming

Preparation:

1. Rim the glass with red sugar (use food coloring) or drop in a set of wax vampire teeth for a real surprise.
2. Pour vodka and half of the Chambord in a martini glass.
3. Top with Champagne.
4. Pour the remaining Chambord over the back of a spoon to make it float.

A Slippery Nipple is a popular shooter that pairs sambuca and Irish cream liqueurs. Sambuca is an anise-flavored (like black licorice) liqueur and is a bit of an acquired taste which can catch you off guard in a shot like this. You may also see a Slippery Nipple that replaces the sambuca with equal parts of Anisette and Peppermint Schnapps. I don’t recommend substituting absinthe into any shot, it can be too powerful.
Ingredients:

* 1/2 oz sambuca
* 1 oz Irish cream liqueur

Preparation:

1. Pour the Irish cream liqueur into a shot glass.
2. Top with the sambuca.

Forget the name, this shooter is absolutely delicious and very popular. I see rounds of Blow Jobs being made at the bar more often than any other shooter. The customary way to shoot a Blow Job is to place your hands behind your back, pick the glass up with your mouth, tilt your head back and drink. It doesn’t look pretty but it is fun, although I haven’t resorted to that method for some time.
Ingredients:

* 1/4 oz Bailey’s Irish cream liqueur
* 1/2 oz Amaretto almond liqueur
* whipped cream

Preparation:

1. Pour the liqueurs into a shot glass.
2. Top with whipped cream.

The old saying “hair of the dog that bit you” is a common theory for curing a hangover. Most people choose a Bloody Mary, but the thick, red drink can be rather upsetting to look at, much less drink when you’re in the midst of a hellacious hangover. The Hair of the Dog cocktail is a great alternative that serves the same purpose: a little bit of alcohol, sour citrus and the hot digestive aid to calm the stomach. Unless you have a Bloody Mary mix on hand, Hair of the Dog is easier to mix, an attribute you’ll appreciate when your head is splitting and stomach is churning.
Ingredients:

* 6 oz Bulldog Gin
* 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
* 2-3 dashes Tabasco sauce
* slice of chili pepper

Preparation:

1. Pour the Bulldog Gin and Tabasco into an ice-filled cocktail shaker.
2. Shake generously.
3. Strain into a chilled rocks glass.
4. Garnish with a chili pepper.

It’s an interesting mixed drink filled with flavor. The Cherry Hooker is a simple highball of cherry brandy and orange juice (similar to the Screwdriver) that is often shaken in the glass. To do this place the bottom of a shaker or a cheater tin over the filled glass and (while holding both glasses firmly) give it a good shake or two.
Ingredients:

* 2 oz cherry brandy
* orange juice
* lime wedge for garnish

Preparation:

1. Pour the cherry brandy into an ice filled highball glass.
2. Top with orange juice.
3. Shake.
4. Garnish with the lime wedge.

This is the base recipe for a myriad of recipes that begin with a Sloe Gin and orange juice base. This base recipe can also be modified by using 3/4 oz each vodka and Sloe Gin. Check out the variations below the recipe.
Ingredients:

* 1 1/2 oz Sloe Gin
* orange juice
* orange slice for garnish

Preparation:

1. Pour the Sloe Gin (or Sloe Gin and vodka) into a highball glass filled with ice.
2. Fill with orange juice.
3. Garnish with an orange slice.

* Sloe Comfortable Screw– 1 oz vodka, 1 oz Southern Comfort, 1/2 oz Sloe Gin, fill with orange juice.
* Sloe Comfortable Screw Against the Wall– 1 oz each of vodka, Southern Comfort and Sloe Gin, fill with orange juice, top with Galliano.
* Sloe Comfortable Mexican Screw Against the Wall– 1/2 oz each of vodka, Southern Comfort, Sloe Gin and tequila, fill with orange juice.
* Sloe Comfortable Screw Between the Sheets– 1/2 oz each of vodka, Southern Comfort, Sloe Gin, rum and brandy, fill with orange juice.
* Sloe Comfortable Fuzzy Screw Against the Wall– 1/2 oz each of vodka, Southern Comfort, Sloe Gin peach schnapps, and Galliano, fill with orange juice.

  7. So fun, Inez! I’ve been all about champagne lately, so the Vampire’s Kiss sounds good. For drinks I like buttery nipples better than slippery ones, lol, but it all sounds pretty good.

    Great idea! Thank you!

  9. Quite a list! I’m a purist myself, tending toward true Russian vodka straight up from the freezer.

    Fortunately for everyone involved, my imbibing is pretty limited šŸ™‚
