Yesterday, we celebrated my oldest son’s 13th birthday (I still can believe he’s ‘officially’ a teenager ). While thinking about these last thirteen years with him in our lives, I realized 1997 was the year I decided to commit to writing and make it an important part of my life.
How long have you been writing?
Tales from the Crit 
It’ll be 8 years in February. Not sure exactly which day, but early in the month. I even remember the story I was trying to write. Believe it or not, I’m currently writing a completely different version, but it starts with more or less the same theme.
I’ve been writing off and on since I was a teen but didn’t do so for intent to publish until the last two years. I’ve completed five novels now, working on a sixth and have number seven in my sights.
I’ve been writing for an intent to publish since I was 13 but it’s only been in the last three years I’ve been able to buckle down, get away from college, and publish. Now I’m making up for lost time.
I’ve been writing since I was wee, but I first decided to try for publication 16 years ago (god dammit I’m getting old!). Crashed and burned and stopped writing for a long time after that. I picked back up writing for fun in 2001 and then decided to try for publication again in 2005. And haven’t looked back since. 🙂
How long have I been writing?
Quite literally, almost my entire life. I started writing stories to share when I was about seven or eight years old. When I was ten, I started writing stories which were essentially my daydreams put on paper.
When I was about thirteen or fourteen, I started thinking seriously about being a Writer (with that capital “W”!) for an honest-to-goodness living.
I completed three novels when I was in my early twenties, but I had a five-years-long writer’s block shortly thereafter.
In the last six years, I have only completed two novels – one will be published this summer, the other is going into rewrites once I’ve completed my current WIP.
It only took me thirty years to start to realize my dream in one form or another. LOL! I reckon I’m ahead of schedule! 😉
Since I was 11. And let’s just call that a few decades ago.
Since a teenager, but for publication in the last year. I completed a first draft on two books since then. What amazes me is how much time you have to spend on the business side of things – agent research, publisher research, reading craft/business/review stuff, etc. I find myself frustrated at how much time I invest but I’m still not done fine-tuning my MS so I can submit. That’s why goals have been so critical for me this year. 2010 is the year I go PRO!
Well, I’ve always made stuff up, so I had good training 🙂 Officially I started writing seriously in 1999.2000 and made my first sale in 2005.
I’ve always been writing in some form or another. In my childhood, it was elaborate stories about another world. In high school and college, it was poetry and stream-of-consciousness prose. For the past few years, I went from writing for myself to writing for a job. It wasn’t enjoyable and eventually I found my way back to enjoying writing through a review blog, some articles on child behavior, and now my fiction.
About six years now seriously. Off and on for most of my life.
