Why Do You Read?

I read fiction because I love watching relationships develop between people. The relationships don’t have be romantic either. Like the relationship between Dana and Rufus in Octavia Butler’s Kindred.  I also like watching characters come into their own. Like Janie in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston.

I read non-fiction because I am curious and like to understand things.

  1. I read to discovery characters, what makes them tick. I read to discover the mystery in the story and to experence the mood of “being there”, whereever there is.

  2. Katrina Williams

Wow – hard to encapsulate. Mostly to be taken away from the every day, to experience new worlds and people. At least that was why I read originally. Now it’s mostly to see how other writers do stuff. It’s rare for me to turn off that inner student and just get lost in the story.
